Continuum Update Project

The Continuum Update project involves updating the Continuum Resource Kit in light of the Public Records Act 2005. Almost all publications in the kit have been updated.

What is the Continuum Resource Kit?

Archives New Zealand’s Continuum Resource Kit was launched in March 2003. It contains more than twenty publications including recordkeeping standards, guides, advisory notices and fact sheets. The publications in the kit are also available online from this website.

Why did we update the kit?

The tools in Continuum were developed under the Archives Act 1957 and Local Government Act 1974. They have been updated to ensure consistency with the Public Records Act 2005.

What has changed in the Recordkeeping Resource Kit?

What has not changed?

We have not updated the Recordkeeping Framework, the Appraisal Standard, or the Storage Standard. This is because these publications are already scheduled for a more comprehensive review in the near future.

We have not updated the Electronic Recordkeeping Systems Standard PDF Document (994 kb) or the Advisory Notice Making Access Decisions under the Public Records Act, as these publications were issued under the Public Records Act and are still up-to-date.

How do I get an update?

If you already hold a kit, and you want to receive the update, send us this form PDF Document (21 kb).

What do I do when I receive the update?

When you receive the update you will need to dispose of the outdated publications and add the new publications to your kit. We’ve developed update instructions PDF Document (26 kb) and a table of contents PDF Document (30 kb) to help you with this.

What if I need help?
