If your organisation is considered a public office, it will be listed on this page.
This section lists all those organisations which Archives New Zealand has identified as being public offices as defined by the Public Records Act (PRA). This includes all government departments, crown entities, crown research institutes, state enterprises, district health boards, tertiary institutions and state schools.
If your organisation appears on the list, it is a public office and must comply with the PRA. The list is updated at quarterly intervals to reflect legislative and/or other changes. The last update was carried out on: 4 December 2007.
If your organisation has been newly created or does not appear on the list when you believe it should, or if you are still unsure whether your organisation should be listed as a public office, please contact the Government Recordkeeping Programme. Contact details are outlined below.
The PRA also applies to local authorities. This includes all regional councils and territorial authorities, council-controlled organisations and trading organisations, and local government organisations. Public offices only are listed here.
For information on the local government sector see the Local Government New Zealand website or contact the Government Recordkeeping Programme.
If you have any questions about your organisation’s status under the PRA please let us know. There are four ways to contact us:
