10 January 2022

In February 2022, we’ll be replacing Archway with a new Collections search. Using the new search, you’ll be able to:

  • filter your search results more easily than in Archway

  • track archives you’ve ordered online

  • see your order history.

Ordering items during COVID-19

To keep our staff and the public safe during COVID-19, we're limiting the number of people who visit our reading rooms each day. Our staff are ordering items and making viewing appointments manually so we can make sure we stick to a safe number of visitors.

This means that when Collections search first launches, you won't be able to use it to order items to a reading room. To arrange to view an item, you'll need to contact the repository that holds it.

Order times

We've frozen our current system while we set up our new Collections search, so it might take us a bit longer than usual to find the items you need. While our system is frozen, we:

  • need to order your items manually

  • may take a little longer to retrieve the items

  • can’t see your order history — to help us, please keep a note of what you’ve ordered.

Log into Collections search with RealMe

You can search our collections and see record details without logging in, but you'll need to log in with a RealMe account to use some key features of the new Collections search.

You'll also be able to use your RealMe account at the National Library, as well as other government services like StudyLink and the Ministry of Social Development.

Learn more about RealMe

Register for RealMe

If you don’t have a RealMe account, you can register for one when you start using the new search. This only takes a couple of minutes.

Use an existing RealMe account

If you already have a RealMe account, you can use it to access the new search.

Ordering on behalf of a government agency

If you order on behalf of a government agency, the way you order items won’t change. RealMe is for individual users only – it isn’t needed for government agencies.

Using Collections search from overseas

You'll be able to search for items without logging in.  If you want to order a digital copy you need a RealMe account.  You can register for a non-verified RealMe account from anywhere in the world.

To register you'll need to provide:

  • your email address and other contact details

  • a username and password

  • answers to 3 security questions, in case you forget your username or password.

You don't need to sign up for RealMe account until we launch Collections search.

Reader cards

You won’t need your reader card after we launch Collections search. If you want to keep using your reader card, you’ll need to ask us to link it to your RealMe account.

Help with the new Collections search

Collections search is easy to use – but if you need support, you'll be able to get it:

  • online

  • in our reading rooms.

We’re continuing to develop Collections search. We’d love to hear your feedback and ideas for improvements.
